Privacy & permissions

BetterBuy compares product prices across Moldovan shops. This policy describes version 0.4.1, which has no user accounts, ads, analytics SDKs or AI calls.

What the extension reads

On supported shop websites and Xiaomi Global product pages, BetterBuy reads the page URL and public product metadata, such as the product name, brand, model, variant, category, price and availability. It uses this information to find comparable products and display the comparison panel. It does not read your browser history, passwords, payment details or form entries.

What leaves your browser

Product names, model identifiers and variant terms are sent directly to permitted shops as search queries. BetterBuy then requests candidate product pages to verify matches. These background requests use HTTPS and omit cookies and other login credentials. Shops receive ordinary network information, including your IP address, and may log requests under their own policies.

The extension also requests the public shop catalog from betterbuy.md, hosted on Netlify. Catalog requests contain no viewed product URL, product name, search query, page content or installation identifier. Netlify receives ordinary request information, including the IP address and request headers, to deliver and protect the service. Visiting the BetterBuy website also sends ordinary web requests to Netlify. The site does not include analytics or advertising scripts.

Opening a shop link navigates to that shop normally. Its own cookies, privacy policy and checkout terms then apply. BetterBuy does not insert affiliate parameters or redirect purchases through advertising services.

What stays on your device

The extension stores your automatic-panel preference, a product-result cache and a copy of the shop catalog in Chrome’s local extension storage. This storage is not synchronized by BetterBuy to another device or an account. Product-cache keys include the searched product and variant; cached results include matched product URLs, prices, availability and check times.

Price results are reused for up to 15 minutes. Expired entries and entries beyond the 100-result limit are removed during cleanup after comparisons; expired data can remain on disk until that cleanup runs. The catalog is revalidated after 24 hours while the browser runs or you use the extension. If refresh fails, the last valid catalog remains available, including beyond 24 hours. Preferences remain until changed or the extension is removed.

Your controls

Use “Check again” to refresh prices from other shops. Reload the current product page to update its price. The toolbar popup can turn off automatic panel opening; comparisons still run on detected products and the floating button shows the result. To stop processing a site, restrict site access in Chrome’s extension settings, disable the extension or uninstall it. Uninstalling removes its local extension storage.

Why these permissions are needed

• Listed shop websites: read product metadata and fetch search results and product pages for comparisons. Access is limited to explicit catalog domains and aliases.
• Xiaomi Global product pages: recognize a manufacturer’s product as a starting point for a local comparison.
• betterbuy.md: download the public catalog. A catalog update cannot grant access to additional websites.
• Storage: keep the preferences and caches described above.
• Alarms: check hourly whether the catalog’s 24-hour cache needs revalidation.
• Offscreen document: parse fetched HTML using browser DOM APIs, without running the shop’s JavaScript.

Limited use and service providers

BetterBuy uses product and website data only to provide its price-comparison features. BetterBuy’s use and transfer of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. We do not sell user data, build browsing profiles, or use or transfer product or browsing data for advertising or credit decisions. This release does not send product data to OpenAI or another AI provider.

Netlify provides website and catalog hosting. Retailers process the searches and page requests necessary for comparisons. If you contact support by email, your email address and the information you choose to send are processed through the support mailbox provider to answer your request. Please do not send passwords, payment details or unrelated personal information. Infrastructure and mailbox providers may retain operational records under their own policies; BetterBuy does not set a guaranteed retention period for those provider records.

Questions and changes

Contact BetterBuy through our support page for privacy questions or requests concerning information you sent to support. Local product-cache data is not sent to BetterBuy, so removing the extension is how you remove that local copy. Changes to the extension’s data handling will be reflected in an updated policy and store disclosures before release.
